Since our inception in October 2021, we have helped four students enroll in schools from elementary through university levels and vocational training, including Nong Set. When Nong learned that her single mother was borrowing money to send her and her younger siblings to school, Nong dropped out of 7th grade to work odd jobs. Shortly after, she moved away from home to Thailand to waitress and work in the kitchen in order to continue supporting her siblings.
Nong shared with us her dreams of going back to school to learn English and about computers. She said, “I want to see my younger sister’s dream of…receiving her Bachelor degree come true.” KIDS purchased a laptop for Nong, and she has since been taking computer training courses and working an entry level job using her new computer skills. Nong has strong perseverance and high hopes for her family to get out of poverty one day.
There are so many underprivileged students like Nong in Cambodia. Eleven female students are currently seeking our assistance to alleviate some of their financial burdens at university.
